Graiul Romanesc which also goes by the name ³The Romanian Cultural and Beneficial Society², is
continuing to grow and organize events for people of Romanian Heritage and their spouses, families and
friends in the Windsor Ontario region.
As its name implies the retention and sharing of culture is a major motivation in organizing activities. Over
the past year we¹ve held a Grape Dance and Dinner (Balul Strugurilor) and also a traditional March Dinner
Dance: Martisor. Both were very well attended. In addition we enjoyed a wine and cheese social and an
Historic Dinner Cruise on the Detroit River.
Another project in the Cultural area is the support Graiul Romanesc gives the Romanian Dance Group:
Rhapsodia. This recently formed troupe (2 years) has already performed at many events and has received
much praise.
In addition, we support the Romanian Section of the Windsor Central Public Library. Approximately 100
books, videos, cassettes, etc. are available for everyone to use.
The word ³Beneficial² in our name is well suited to our involvement. In the last 2 years Graiul Romanesc has
raised then distributed over $7000.00 in scholarship money to Romanian Students in College and University.
In addition, $1,500.00 was donated to the painting and Cupola repairs at St. George¹s Romanian Orthodox
Cathedral.
Graiul Romanesc also donated $1,000.00 to the Tsunami Disaster Relief fund.
The president of Graiul Romanesc for the past 2 years has been George Plantus. The efforts and
determination of the club¹s members are assisting this organization to become more active and more
involved. Graiul Romanesc welcomes people of Romanian Heritage, relatives and friends to join us for social,
educational and beneficial endeavors.
